Last month, the Helsinki Times caught up with author Scott Lynch at WorldCon 75. Concerning progress on the much awaited Thorn of Emberlain the author stated:
My wife and I will have an uninterrupted 2 month period after we go home, during which I basically hope to get the book turned in, and then we can begin setting a firmer schedule for its publication. For the most part I’m very pleased with it. I’m pretty sure that I can fix the stuff that I’m not pleased about in the next 8 weeks or so.
We also learn a bit more concerning the plot and main characters.

Scott Lynch has recently answered several questions from readers on his Tumblr account. One of the posts concerns the status of The Thorn of Emberlain:
THORN needs an ending written (the ending is outlined in depth, just not yet written) and some targeted rewrites in three or four specific areas, based on vexing but extremely astute criticism from my agent, my genius wife, and a trusted friend. This is my primary job for December.
I’ll let you check out the other posts concerning various actions.
Scott Lynch and Elizabeth Bear are guests on the recent Writing Excuses podcast bonus episode. They discuss food in fantasy writing with Howard Tayler and Dan Wells.

In an update published by Scott Lynch’s publisher Gollancz, the author informs his readers, who were eagerly awaiting the publication of The Thorn of Emberlain, tentatively slotted for September 22, 2016, in the UK, that the release date is pushed back to an undetermined date. Lynch explains:
I am incredibly sorry about this, and I want it to be understood that there’s nobody to blame but me. In addition to the expected obstacles, I severely complicated my life this year by moving. The process of seeking a mortgage, securing a house, and moving across half a continent (although it was necessary, and has been mostly joyful) has eaten months of my time and made it very difficult to recover lost ground on several projects. Oh– Elizabeth Bear and I are getting married, too. Another real joy, but it’s eating spare time like you wouldn’t believe.
Scott is still scheduled to appear in September at Fantasycon-by-the-Sea in the UK and in October at IceCon in Iceland.
We’ll get back to you when we hear more.
