It is now official: GRR Martin has announced the release on October 10, 2017 of a new anthology entitled The Book of Swords featuring a short story “The Smoke of Gold is Glory” by Scott Lynch, along with contributions by many other writers including GRR Martin himself and Elizabeth Bear.
A couple of tidbits from The Thorn of Emberlain front.
First, Scott posted a short update concerning the progress of the next installment of the Gentleman Bastard series. The book is “very deeply underway” and should be finished “only a bit later than hoped.” Since original predictions were late 2014-early 2015, we can only assume that this means spring 2015, if all goes well.
Second, Scott intends to read the first excerpt of The Thorn of Emberlain at Finncon. We’ll keep you updated once we know more.
In the meantime, we remind you that Scott’s latest short story is out in Rogues, should you need your Lynch fix!
Update: The reading from The Thorn of Emberlain is scheduled for Saturday, July 12, at 3pm. If you are attending Finncon, please send us a recording or summary!
As announced previously, Rogues, the anthology featuring Scott Lynch’s new short story “A Year and a Day in Old Theradane,” will be released on June 17, 2014. Suvudu posted a video of a reading from this story by Scott when he visited Seattle. Enjoy!
Update–Scott has posted a blurb about it:
Amarelle Parathis, the Duchess Unseen, globe-trotting criminal mastermind, has been living an uneasy retirement in the city of Theradane for several years. Pursued by authorities in every corner of the world, she and her crew have traded most of their purloined treasures for the life of honest citizens in a sovereign sanctuary that thumbs its nose at extradition treaties.
“Better to say nothing and be thought a fool,” says a sober Amarelle, “than to interfere in the business of wizards and remove all doubt.” Unfortunately, she’s not always sober, and the business of wizards is about to reach out and seriously provoke her…
Amarelle’s crew includes the sorceress-mixologist Sophara Miris, artificer extreme (and Sophara’s wife) Brandwin Miris, the sentient automaton Shraplin Self-Made, and the master forger Jadetongue Squirn, a goblin grappling with a certain crisis of confidence. Five crooked souls, two warring wizards, one completely insane scheme, and a year and a day to bring it all together or die trying…
Gardner Dozois and G.R.R. Martin submitted the Rogues anthology to their editor at Bantam Spectra some months ago. The volume is to feature 21 short stories by well-known authors such as Patrick Rothfuss and Neil Gaiman, including “A Year and a Day in Old Theradane” by Scott Lynch. It will be released on June 17, 2014.
